DOCTRINE

Each Calvary Chapel is formed as a fellowship of believers in the Lordship of Jesus Christ with the supreme desire to know Christ and to be conformed to His image by the power of the Holy Spirit. We are not a denominational church, nor are we opposed to denominations as such, only their over-emphasis of doctrinal differences that have led to division in the Body of Christ. We believe that the only true basis of Christian fellowship is His love, which is greater than any differences we possess and without which we have no right to claim ourselves Christians.

Doctrinal Statement

1. We believe the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative Word of God and inerrant in the original writings.
2. We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons, Father, Son, & Holy Spirit
3. We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, that He died in our place and through His shed blood we receive the forgiveness of sins, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory.
4. We believe that lost and sinful man must be saved from this condition, and that man’s only hope of redemption is through the shed blood of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
5. We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live the Christian life.
6. We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the unsaved; they that are saved unto a resurrection of life and they that are unsaved unto a resurrection of damnation.
7. We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ.

Statement of Distinctives We Hold To

• The inerrancy of Scripture
• The present day continuation of the spiritual gifts that Paul wrote of in 1 Corinthians 12-14
• Simplicity in church government, rather than a complex bureaucracy
• A dependence upon the Holy Spirit to lead, rather than ambitious promotion of someone’s agenda
• The premillennial, pre-tribulation return of Christ for His waiting church
• The verse by verse teaching of the Word of God in such a way that it leads toward spiritual maturity

You will NOT find at Calvary Hayward

• The teaching of ‘positive confession’
• The belief that true Christians can be possessed by demons
• A fatalistic Calvinistic view which allows no room for free will
• Prophecy that supersedes Scripture
• The incorporation of humanistic psychology and philosophy into Biblical teaching
• "Charismania" (the over emphasis upon spiritual gifts, experiential signs and wonders, etc.)

Mission and Vision

The Mission

The mission of Calvary Chapel Hayward is two fold:
The Great Commission:
"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit."
Matthew 28:19
The Great Commandment:
"Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and most important commandment. The second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself."
Matthew 22:37-39

The Vision

The vision of Calvary Chapel Hayward to is to create a community of authentic believers and to witness a city transformed by the life changing reality of the gospel, as people come to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior.
We believe "faith comes by hearing the word of God," Romans 10:17
So we teach the whole Bible,  verse by verse, chapter by chapter and book by book,  to see this vision realized
